Knowing the margin requirement, dollar value, and expiration dates is vital to futures and futures options trading:

• Contract value know the actual dollar value of your option trades or the "point value" of your futures contract
• Margin find out what the margin requirement of buying/sell your futures contract is, and also the margin requirement to buy/sell any of the hundreds of thousands of option contracts
• First Notice Day don't get caught with a futures contract as it approaches the delivery period.
